Midland County Fair

At the Midland County Fair there will be cotton candy, Ferris wheels and rodeo highlight much of the Midland County Fair, which opens at 5:30 p.m. at the Horseshoe.
But perhaps the real kick-off is Austin-based singer Parker McCollum and his opening night concert at the amphitheater. After garnering attention from “Rolling Stone” and having impact on the Billboard charts, McCollum is looking to be the next big thing in Texas Country.
But first, he’s playing catch-up.
“All of this has happened so quick,” he said. “I’m really still learning a lot about songwriting and making records but it’s at such a fast pace.”

But upon his first full-length release “The Limestone Kid” in 2015, McCollum was booked for music festivals around Texas. It was considered the “debut album to beat” by the Austin Chronicle.

Career:

The follow-up EP, “Probably Wrong: Session One,” was released in June 2017 and debuted at No. 6 on Billboard’s Heatseekers charts. The full album, “Probably Wrong,” produced by Grammy-winning Lloyd Maines, was released in November.
Despite his accomplishments, McCollum is still figuring out how it’s all happened.
“I really can’t take credit for knowing this business. A lot of it has been trusting my gut,” he said.
That seems to have worked. This spring, he was signed to an artist’s deal with Warner/Chappell Nashville.
“I wasn’t seeking a publishing deal, so I didn’t know much about it. They saw some potential and believed in what I was doing,” McCollum said. “It was definitely a leap of faith for them to jump on board and help us grow to the next step.”

That step is a new album, which he expects to complete early next year.
But for now, he’s ready to give it all at tonight’s show and the bigger fair crowd on a larger stage.
“The bigger the stage and crowd, the more confident I feel,” he said. “Come out and see us take that energy to the next level.”
